EYECONS ORGANIZATION

EyeCons is an organization that supports students interested in and / or in the eye care field. I have the privilege of being the advisor for this organization, which is one my most favorite and sometimes most disheartening jobs.

The mission for EyeCons is to serve our community by providing free eye screenings and education on eye health care. While encouraging and supporting the development of the San Jacinto student in a patient's standard of care.

The organization is actively involved in several campus and off-campus activities. And has been awarded the Patsy Goss Community Service three years in a row for their service by San Jacinto College Student Life aka Student Engagement & Activities.

The group also attends continuing education conferences / meetings by sponsored by industry agencies such as Certified Opticians Associations of Texas, Joint Commission, Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology and American Society of Regristed Nurses in Ophthalmology. These conferences and meetings offer the student several advantages in advancing their knowledge basis, networking with their future peers and employers as well as maneuvering the application process of attending conferences.

But the group is not all business, fun is also on the agenda with field trips to Galveston, Ft. Worth and San Antonio. And let's not forget the parties; pizza, holiday and graduation.

It fills my heart to see this group of students grow into caring and successful allied ophthalmic personnel, then rejoice with them upon receiving their certification from San Jacinto and Joint Commission Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
